FALSE ADVERTISING! -- NOT FREE - you have to buy addons, some VERY expensive, for it to be functional.

This should not be classed as free as that is a gimmick. Expensive add-ons are required to make it work. The Authorize.net payment gateway, for example, costs $322.00 USD.

Product attributes are useless in large shops. Prestashop creates a row from every possible combination of the attributes and suddenly you have a product with 2-3 attribute groups (like a shirt with color and fabric) and 5000 corresponding combinations in the database. Add a few products more (with attributes) and you may end up with over 100 000 combinations. The admin panel then displays only a blank page and the product pages in frontend don't work either. And yes, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

So if you have many products with some attributes, do the calculations before trying Prestashop. Otherwise it seems ok. It has the basic features, but many of the important modules aren't included.

PrestaShop is making a strong move towards the CRE approach of making users pay for features ... not really the spirit of opensource software ... "Our software is free but if you want to use any of the good bits they are extra" ... I would avoid.

Try osCMax or Zen - oscommerce derivatives which are totally free and have the same functionality.

This is semi-free, since many important modules are not free.
